the rapture

When I heard Mimi Rogers name, only one thing came to mind, Tom Cruise’s ex wife. It’s not that I haven’t really seen her in anything but her movies didn’t really appeal me. So, I think just never really thought about her and if I saw her movies on DVD’s store, usually I skipped her or even didn’t even notice it all. I know it sounds harsh, but true.

Never in million years I would ever thought that I would watch The Rapture. However, Adam had been looking forward to see it in a very long time, so when we finally sign up with Blockbuster, he put that in the list and few days ago, it finally arrived.

So, I was surprise to see that Mimi Rogers was actually a good actress. At least in this movie she was just so brilliant. I like her character alot and how she transformed from skeptical and bitter person into a “psychotic” religious person.

The story was interesting. I personally like movies with religious (Christian) aspect on it. Not because I am church-going person, but I always thought that stories based or inspired by on biblical events always seemed interesting, especially it’s prophecy about the end of the world.

When I saw the ending of the movie, my first impression that it just doesn’t make any sense. If you haven’t saw this movie, then stop reading right here, because I don’t like ruining this for you. But if you have, then here’s why I thought so.

I think it’ll be more realistic if she said that she loved God so she could be with her daughter and husband in heaven instead of choosing to be in hell or limbo forever. However, now I have think about it, the ending actually was more interested that way. It will make people kept talking and thinking about it. The ending looked darker that way and probably that’s the purpose of this movie. Because if she choose to be with her family, then they all be happily ever after in heaven. No, no. It just doesn’t seemed right.

Tom Hanks is the best actor in the world. I am still sure about it and this movie didn’t change my opinion at all. This was probably one of the worst movie he was in, but definetly wasn’t the worst movie I have ever seen. There are still alot out there. I mean, this is still 5 times better than The Goonies :) (*)
