He might doesn’t have some ridiculous costume. He might doesn’t have cool car. He was strong but he might won’t be able to turn back time. Instead of having a very sexy love interest, he “only” had just some normal wife and they seemed having problems in their marriage. Despite all that, he’s the coolest superheroes ever!

David Dunn’s (Bruce Willis) life was about to change drastically when he was the only one to survive on the very terrible train crash. A mysterious Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson) showed up and told him that he was possibly a superhero, something that of course he denied (and seemed later we learned that he has been on denial through his life).

Seemed probably sounded just like some other regular superheroes movies, didn’t it? But it was different. Don’t expect to see some overrated superheroes action scene. Things were just quite “normal” that you forgot that it was actually a movie about superheroes. M. Night Shyamalan somehow made it (and probably that was his purpose from the beginning) the whole movie as “normal” as possible. It wasn’t normal in boring ways but in very interesting and realistic way. It made the audience felt that it was possible that somewhere in this world there was other superheroes just like Dunn. Things were just so normal so when Dunn finally show his “superheroes” power, it looked and felt more amazing than watching Superman flied.
The realism in this movie was the key of the success of this Shyamalan’s masterpiece. It was the kind of the movie that still rolling in my mind even days after I watched it and I didn’t mind to experience over and over again through other movies I hope.
After succeed with a very shocking ending in The Sixth Sense, Shyamalan tried to keep his “trademark” experience with this movie. I must said, it really works!

I don’t hate this movie but I couldn’t say that I am impressed either. The story, the performance the directing even the cinematography were okay. I felt like I’ve seen it all before.

There were things that quite bother me. This movie several had things that I always hoped that I will never see again in the screen.

First, on how the characters talking without looking at each other but instead they were facing different direction. I think the director wanted to get a dramatic angle that probably would looked good on screen but it just never work for me.

Second, the martial art style during the fight is also a little bit too much for me.

Third, on how the main character showed up so dramatically at the “last battle” scene.

Fourth, on how the main character dramatic appearance on his revenge scene which kinda failed to me.

Fifth, the need to do some some speech before attacking, and during the fight with the main villain, they sometimes paused and using that time to do some “talk” so they could explain things on audience I think.

Sixth, there weren’t enough chemistry between the characters with the exception of Gregoire de Fronsac and Sylvia (but not with Marianne unfortunately).

Despite all the cliche, I still have more to say. I didn’t impress at all with the beast and I just hate when my guess about who’s the bad guy turn out to be true (*)

I haven’t seen Brotherhood of the Wolf in a while, but I loved it and I have to say I disagree with your assessment! :) Perhaps I should watch it again to provide my counterpoints!

As for Unbreakable, I wrote about it a while back and completely agree with you! :D It’s one of my favourites actually, I’m glad you liked it… It does stay in your mind long after the credits roll!
