There are so many reason why this movie is just so damn good.

First, Linda Hunt performance. She played as a male photography. Her character could be funny, creepy, smart but of course soon you’d realize how sad he actually was. He was in love with this British woman, Jill (Sigourney Weaver). He asked her to marry him but she said no. He still loved her and decided to match her with his new best friend, a young Australian journalist Guy Hamilton (Mel Gibson).

Second, it’s a great movie. It’s fiction but the background was based on a true historical event during the fall of Indonesia first president ever, Sukarno. In Indonesia, PKI or Indonesian Communist Party always portraits as the most dangerous and cruel organization which ever existed in Indonesian history, that’s probably why this movie has been banned until 1999. In this one, it got pretty fair view and it was just so interesting to see how the western view about this event in Indonesia.

Third, I know I have said before, but Mel Gibson was looking better than ever here. I found a picture of him from that movie here .Lately, I’ve been thinking that Vincent D’Onofrio must be the most attractive actor on the planet, but after seeing Mel again in this movie, I kinda changed my mind a little :)

Anyway, this movie is really worth to watch. As Indonesian, it was easy for me to point some “weird” Indonesian dialect. However, I can accept that because they were Philippines trying to speak Indonesian for God’s sake. That’s why I decide to gave them a break. (*)
