my trip to middle earth

My friend Antimatter recently suggest me to watch Lord of The Rings. Actually, some other people already suggested me to do that many times. My answer is I want to read the books first before watching it. I am afraid that without little knowledge, I would be completely clueless and can’t love the movies that supposed to be one of the best ones ever made.
I remember when I first watching Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I HATED it. But that’s before I read the books. But after reading them, I watched it again and this time I have completely different feelings about it. I can see how magical it is and since that time I’ve became a huge Harry Potter fans, books and movies.
Back to Lord of the Rings. It’s not that I’ve never try to watch it before. I did, but I choose the wrong way to do that. I choose watching The Fellowships of The Ring from pirates VCD (I was still in Indonesia and getting pirates VCD/DVD is as easy as getting hamburgers here in the states). The quality were awfully bad. It’s dark so sometimes you couldn’t even see anything. It was a bad experience for me and it even made me didn’t want to watch the original or at the theater. I think that experience really made me feeling “run out” already.
So, when the Two Towers and the Return of the Kings came out of the theater, I’ll probably the only movie lover on this planet that choose not to watch it. When they came out on HBO, I saw them but never really pay attention. I didn’t really saw those in order too. Sometimes I only see the end of it, or only the beginning. So, again I FELT more clueless and clueless about it.
I know in my heart that I need to see this movie. But with all those bad experience, I am afraid that I’ll bore to death. So I decided to read the books first. But I just couldn’t even open the first page. At that time, the only book that I can read and stay focus were Harry Potters (and surprisingly Da Vinci Code and Angel and Demons).
Then I moved to US. It makes the Lord of The Rings adventure even more far away. I decided not to read the English versions of them because I was afraid that I won’t understand a thing, or if I did understand, I’m gonna miss many of the details (just like my last experience with Deathly Hallows and Half Blood Prince). So, then I made another decision, that I’ll only read the Indonesian version before watched the movie. Meaning, I’ll wait few years from now until I visit to Indonesia and buy those books (Or, if I get bored this Christmas then I probably would watch it).
But then my husband without my approval brought all the THREE Lord of the Rings. Yup, ALL THREE! Not only that, they’re all in extended version, meaning every series is like almost 4 hours long. Since he seemed really want to watch them (although he has watched them before), so I said yes. This time I prepare myself to get bored or even hate it. I thought that once I officially hate it then meaning I even lose interest in reading the books ever.
So, what happen next? We watched Fellowship of the Rings, and during the first 30 minutes, I thought, hey it wasn’t that bad and I’m pretty much understand it (with the help of English subtitle of course). And just like that it was over and I am still far far away from being bored! We’re now on the Two Towers and so far I’m lovin’ it. I am more confident that I’ll love The Return of the King too. So, until I finished watch the extended version of all of them, I won’t write any reviews about each of them. I think you can guess though that I almost officially a Lord of The Rings fan (*)

Haha, your husband sounds like a cool guy!
That’s a looong list of excuses, but you finally get to put them aside!
Glad to hear you’re liking it – looking forward to your review.
