I have to admit though, I thought Nicholson was creepy in the role, and I think some of the goofiness was intentional. It's just that over the top crazy is actually quite scary when you're stuck with that crazy person in the middle of nowhere! I remember Dead Calm, saw it quite a long time ago but I do seem to remember it being quite egregious when it came to having the killer keep returning from the 'dead'. :) Hey, I see where you’re coming from with regard to ‘The Shining’.
